Timeline

September - December

  • Keep your Grades up! Academic success has many benefits – ex. Honor Roll, NHS, eligibility for scholarships and awards senior year, etc

  • Use effective study habits – being organized is half the battle! 

  • Stay on top of all your homework/projects – write them down in your agenda 

  • Go for extra help with your teachers before or after school 

  • Email your teachers with questions/concerns if it’s after school hours 

  • Consider signing up for NHS tutoring if you need additional academic support 

  • Remember, you must pass 6 classes each semester to stay eligible for sports

  • Introduce yourself to your new counselor if they haven't reached out to you yet 

  • PSAT offered  in October. Registration will be online through the PHS website 

  • Get involved in clubs, sports, and/or volunteer work. It’s a great way to meet new people and learn new skills 

  • Start thinking about career paths/areas of interest that you would like to pursue in the future 

  • Complete the “AchieveWorks Personality” career interest survey in Naviance to help you figure out what those interests are

  • Complete the Morris County School of Technology application if you are interested in attending their share-time program – rolling admission starting in December.

    January - June

  • Attend your Sophomore Seminar with the school counselors in February/March 

  • Before your scheduling appointment in February, review your 4-year school plan to determine the most appropriate classes for you.

  • If you need working papers, see one of the Guidance secretaries 

  • Consider getting a summer job in the field you might be interested in 

  • Look into summer enrichment experiences at prospective colleges 

  • Finish the school year strong!
