Timeline

September

  • No time like the present to start thinking about life after high school!

  • PSAT offered in October to all Juniors at no cost.

  • Consider attending college fairs at CCM, William Paterson, & Fairleigh Dickinson University 

December

January 

  • Attend the Junior Seminar out of English classes

  • Begin to prepare for SAT/ACT tests - Register for an SAT/ACT prep program through an outside agency

  • Start to consider the type of postsecondary education that you are interested in

  • Consider factors such as location size, cost, admission requirements, etc. 

February - May

  • Begin seriously searching for postsecondary schools you might like to attend 

  • Attend Mini College Fair at PHS as well as National College Fair in April 

  • Use the search programs in Naviance or College Board to research potential colleges

  • Register and take the SAT (March, May, or June) 

  • Consider taking the ACT as well (April, June) 

  • VISIT the schools you are interested in! – Sign up for visits on the college websites 

  • Pick your courses for Senior year wisely. Colleges will factor in your senior year academics

  • Identify teachers that you would like to write your letter of recommendation and speak to them about it

  • Rising Senior Seminar (during class)

June - August 

  • Continue to visit schools that you may want to attend

  • Try to narrow your list to 5-7 schools 

  • Work on your college essay and activity resume

  • Complete Brag Sheet; Have parents complete Parent Brag Sheet

  • Begin the Common App (if applicable)

  • Register to take the SATs again in August or October, if applicable

  • Enjoy summer and gear up for Senior Year!
